Against Torture (OMCT) works with 200 member organisations to end torture and ill-treatment, assist victims, and protect human rights defenders at risk wherever they are.<\/strong><\/p><p>Together, we make up the largest global group actively standing up to torture in over 90 countries. We work to protect the most vulnerable members of our societies, including women, children, indigenous peoples, migrants and other marginalized communities. To achieve this, we advocate with governments to change or implement their laws and policies, we help victims seek justice and strive to hold perpetrators to account. Because torture can never be tolerated, and human dignity is not negotiable.<\/p><p>Some key figures of the OMCT for 2020:<\/p><ul><li>125 human rights defenders were released following action by the OMCT and its partners;<\/li><li>406 torture victims benefited from the OMCT\u2019s direct assistance (medical, psychological, social or legal);<\/li><li>The OMCT shed a light on inhuman practices, including the extra-judicial killings of 122 children in the Philippines, leading to widespread international mobilisation.<\/li><\/ul><p>While the OMCT enjoys the support and trust of several State actors, including Switzerland, it is also financed through private donations. The accompaniment and support of Dominique Brustlein-Bobst in the framework of fundraising events and with foundations is therefore particularly valuable, in order to ensure its financial stability its partners Philippines (PAHRA), Togo (CACIT) and Mexico (Frayba) to kick off of the initiative &#8220;Civil Society United Against Torture Which will last at least until 2020 will have a long- lasting impact on thousands of people.<\/em><\/p><p>The Organization World Against Torture (OMCT) &#8211; of which I am Special Advisor to of the executive director &#8211; has launched on February 1st\u00a0 2018 a new initiative worldwide, which will uniquely mobilize its vast network of partners in dozens of countries around the world, to increase the protection of the most vulnerable in the face of torture.<\/p><p>In partnership with three organizations in the Philippines, Mexico and Togo, the OMCT will seek to leverage its impact by creating the groups working in Asia, in Latin America and in Africa. Hundreds of lawyers and defenders of the rights humans unite to better combat impunity in their countries by leading actions and coordinated campaigns for Justice. Thousands of victims will benefit directly or indirectly from this work and hundreds of them will receive not only direct legal support, but also social care and support.<\/p><p>While torture can affect anyone at any time, certain categories of people are found to be particularly vulnerable or subject to such abuse. The initiative will soon focus on contexts related to the flows of migration in Africa, violence done to women and children in Asia, and the abuse suffered by the indigenous peoples in Latin America.
